iPhone back glass repair
An iPhone 12 that slid off a table glass side down, or an iPhone 16 Pro cracked around its cameras, is the kind of back CELLTECH replaces at stores across Texas. CELLTECH repairs iPhone 7 through iPhone 18 Pro Max, including iPhone SE, iPhone 16e, iPhone Air and iPhone Duo. Back glass work applies from iPhone 8 onward, as iPhone 7 has an aluminum back, and on the newest models it depends on how Apple fitted the back.
If the back of your iPhone is cracked, has sharp edges, or is missing pieces, bring it in. The damage is inspected, you're told which repair your model needs, and you get a clear quote before any work begins. After the repair, wireless charging and MagSafe are tested before the iPhone goes back to you.
Walk in without an appointment, and every repair is backed by CELLTECH's 90 day malfunction warranty.

The essentials
The short version before the detail below, from which iPhones have glass backs to what is tested before you collect yours.

Why it matters
Yes, and sooner rather than later. A cracked back doesn't usually slow the iPhone down or stop it working, but it causes problems that get worse over time.

Wireless charging
Not on its own. The wireless charging coil and MagSafe magnets sit inside the iPhone, and they work through the back glass rather than being part of it. A cracked back doesn't normally stop wireless charging by itself.
If your iPhone has stopped charging wirelessly since the drop, something else is usually going on. The coil, its connection, the battery or another internal part may have been affected. That's worth having checked, and CELLTECH will tell you which problem you're dealing with before you spend anything.
Safety
If the back glass cracked or started lifting without a drop, or the gap between the back and the frame is getting wider, the battery may be swelling and pushing from the inside. That's a safety issue, not a cosmetic one.
In this case the battery needs attention before or along with the back glass.
By model
Apple changed how the back glass is attached partway through the iPhone lineup, and that change affects the repair.
Not sure which model you have? Open Settings, General, About, and check Model Name.
How the back glass is attached: Bonded to the frame.
What it means for repair: More involved. The glass is fixed to the housing and has to be separated, or the housing replaced.
How the back glass is attached: Bonded to the frame.
What it means for repair: Same as above.
How the back glass is attached: Redesigned so the back glass can be removed as a separate panel.
What it means for repair: Usually more straightforward.
How the back glass is attached: Depends on the model.
What it means for repair: Call your nearest store with your model.
Repair methods
On iPhones where the back glass is bonded to the frame, repair shops generally use one of two methods. It's worth knowing which one your quote includes.
Before approving the repair, ask which method will be used, whether your frame is damaged, and how the repaired back will look and fit. If the frame is bent, read is it safe to use a bent cell phone.

Color and finish
iPhone backs come in many colors and two different feels. Standard models generally have glossy glass, while Pro models have a matte, textured finish. A good back glass repair should match your iPhone's color and finish so the result looks right.
The rest of the iPhone
The drop that cracks the back glass can damage other parts too. CELLTECH checks these during the inspection, and it helps to mention anything you've noticed.
Cracked or chipped covers let dust reach the cameras. See iPhone camera repair.
Blurry photos, focus problems or a shaking image after the drop.
Whether the flash and flashlight still work.
Bends or dents, especially at the corners.
Whether the volume and side buttons still click normally.
Whether callers and voice memos sound clear.

Water resistance
iPhones are water resistant because of seals and adhesives that are fitted at the factory. Once the back is cracked, that protection is already compromised.
A repair replaces the glass and reseals the back, but no repair can promise the same water resistance the iPhone had when new. Treat a repaired iPhone as splash resistant, and keep it away from pools, baths and heavy rain.
If the iPhone got wet while the back was cracked, mention it. See water damage repair.

In the meantime
A cracked back can usually wait a short time with a case on, but it shouldn't wait long. Until the repair, a few precautions keep the damage from spreading and your hands safe.
Put a case on it to hold loose glass in place and protect your hands.
Cover sharp areas with a piece of clear tape if pieces are coming loose.
Keep it dry. The cracked back no longer keeps water out reliably.
Don't pick at loose pieces, as that can widen the damaged area.
Watch for lifting or a widening gap, which can mean the battery is swelling.

How it works
The back, frame, cameras and battery are checked, and your model's back glass design is identified.
You're told what the repair involves, the price, and roughly how long it will take. Nothing starts until you agree.
The damaged back glass is replaced for your model, and the back is resealed.
Wireless charging, MagSafe, the cameras and the flash are checked before the iPhone goes back to you.

After the repair
Most of these take a minute at the counter, and it's easier to raise a problem before you leave than after.

Turnaround
It depends mainly on your model. On iPhones with the removable back glass design, the repair is usually more straightforward. On models where the back is bonded to the frame, it takes longer.
Part availability for your color and model also matters. Call your nearest CELLTECH store with your model and color for an estimate.
Back glass repairs generally take longer than a screen or battery repair, so ask for the time estimate along with your quote. If the part for your color has to be ordered, the store can tell you the expected wait before you leave the iPhone.
Any extra damage found at the inspection, such as cracked camera covers or a bent frame, is added to the estimate before you approve the repair.

Pricing
The price depends on four things:
Your model: Removable back glass designs are generally simpler than bonded ones.
The repair method: A glass only replacement and a housing replacement are priced differently.
Extra damage: A bent frame, cracked camera covers or a swollen battery add work.
Color and finish: Part availability for your specific color.

Apple coverage
CELLTECH is an independent repair provider and isn't affiliated with or authorized by Apple. AppleCare+ includes coverage for accidental damage, so if your iPhone has it, check that coverage first at checkcoverage.apple.com.
For iPhones without coverage, CELLTECH offers walk-in back glass repair with the quote up front.
If you're not sure whether your iPhone is covered, check before you pay for a repair. CELLTECH would rather you use coverage you already have than pay for a repair you didn't need.

Quick answers about cracked iPhone backs, from safety to color matching.
For a short time, with a case on, usually yes. But sharp edges can cut, water resistance is compromised, and cracks spread, so it's best to repair it soon. If the back is lifting, stop charging it, as the battery may be swelling.
Not by itself. The charging coil and magnets work through the glass. If wireless charging stopped after a drop, an internal part may be affected and should be checked.
iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, plus the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series, use a redesigned back that can be removed as a separate panel. Earlier models and the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have back glass bonded to the frame.
Tell the store your exact color and ask how the replacement compares in shade and finish before approving the repair.
The back is resealed, but no repair can promise factory water resistance. Treat the iPhone as splash resistant and keep it away from submersion.

No. iPhone 7 and earlier models have aluminum backs. Glass backs started with iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
